En het is weer weekend! Terwijl ik dit type heb ik een prachtig uitzicht op een boom die donkerrode, gele, groene en oranje blaadjes heeft. Prachtig! Deze week heb ik mijn neefje veel gezien (zoals je op de filmpjes in de Monday Thankfulness van deze week kunt zien, de filmpjes werken inmiddels weer gewoon) en ben ik lekker een paar keer met hem en mijn schoonzusje naar wat winkels geweest. Mijn broer had namelijk een paar dagen vrijgenomen om te helpen met de kelder, en Ida en Albert kwamen steeds gezellig mee. Ik kreeg ook lieve post, heb met een aangetrouwd nichtje afgesproken om te gaan snailmailen, ging naar het theekransje van mijn lieve tante die 50 werd (en erg blij was met mijn kadootje) en schreef over het belang van het kennen van elkaars liefdestaal. Dit weekend wordt een van mijn beste vriendinnen 30 jaar, een hele mijlpaal. Het gaat gelukkig, na een aantal moeilijke jaren, steeds beter met haar en ik ben zo trots op haar! Hoewel ik het niet zie zitten om naar haar (altijd drukke) verjaardag te gaan, wens ik haar zo via mijn blog vast het beste nieuwe jaar ooit! Ik heb, door het bezighouden van mijn neefje, heel wat meer kinderspelletjes gespeeld dan dat ik op internet heb gesurft, maar toch heb ik nog aardig wat gevonden om met jullie te delen. Lees ze!

And it’s the weekend again! While I type this I have an amazing view of a tree that has dark red, yellow, green and orange leaves. Beautiful! This week I saw my nephew a whole lot (as you can see in the movies in this week’s Monday Thankfulness, and they work again now) and I have been on little outings with him and my sister in law a few times. Because my brother had taken a few days off work to help with the basement, he took Ida and Albert with him. I also got sweet mail, agreed to snailmail with a cousin-in-law, went to a tea party for my sweet aunt who turned 50 (and who was very happy with my little present) and wrote about the importance of knowing each other’s love language. This weekend one of my best friends turns 30, a milestone! Luckily, after quite some hard years, it keeps going better with her and I couldn’t be prouder! Although I’m not going to her (always very crowded) birthday because of my anxiety, I wish her the most amazing new year ever trough my little blog! I have played a lot more children’s games on my tablet than I browsed the internet trying to keep my nephew busy, but I’ve still found quite a few things I want to share with you. Enjoy reading!

Ann Voskamp schreef in dit artikel deze woorden, en ze raakten me. Ze deden me denken aan één van mijn favoriete liedjes, ‘Captivated’ door Vicky Beeching, waarin zij zingt over het ‘gevangen’ zijn in God’s blik, totaal onder de indruk van Hem zijn. Ann Voskamp wrote in this article the above words, and they touched me. They made me think of one of my facorite songs, ‘Captivated’ by Vicky Beeching, in which she sings about being ‘captured’ by God’s gaze, being totally in awe of Him. That’s how I want to live my life. Above is the song:

Deze week sloeg de dichter Tyler Knott Gregson de spijker op zijn kop, wat mij betreft. Op Instagram postte hij verschillende haiku’s en gedichtjes die zó tot me spreken. En hoewel ik weet dat deze gedichten bijna allemaal aan zijn vriendin zijn gericht, kan ik al deze woorden naar mijn grote God uitspreken. Dat is waarom ze me aanspreken: hij verwoordt met menselijke woorden en gedachten mijn gevoelens naar God toe.

This week the poet Tyler Knott Gregson hit the nail on the head, when it comes to me. On Instagram he posted several haiku’s and poems that speak to me so loudly. And even though I know that these poems are almost all written for his girlfriend, I can pronounce these words to my great God. And that’s why they speak to me: he translates with human words and thoughts my feelings towards God:

Katherine Henson schreef een stukje over waarde. Over hoe we zoeken naar waarde in een wereld die ons dat niet te bieden heeft. Haar stukje sluit goed aan bij mijn artikel over de love languages, de liefdestalen, van donderdag. Laat iedereen in zijn waarde. Ontdek elkaar. Weet waar de ander blij van wordt. Veroordeel niet.

Katherine Henson wrote a little piece about worth. About how we search for it in a world that can’t offer it. Her piece totally connects with the piece about love languages I wrote Thursday. Let everyone have their own value. Discover each other. Know what makes the other person happy. Don’t judge.

Hoera, het is weer weekend! Deze week is het hier heel druk geweest. Mijn moeder, zusje, broer en buurman zijn hard bezig met het verbouwen van onze kelder. Overal plastic bakken vol met voorraad, enorme bergen stof op de planken… En dan het eruit slopen van de planken, alle bakken in de schuur opslaan tot ze weer een plekje kunnen krijgen, de kelder schrobben, waterdicht maken en isoleren… Het is een enorm werk. Ik heb zelf alleen een beetje meegeholpen met het opslaan van de voorraad, ik word nog steeds erg snel moe. Verder heb ik wat lieve reacties van vriendinnen gehad over dit stukje over vervlogen dromen dat ik woensdag plaatste. Soms schrijf ik een persoonlijk stuk als dit en heb ik het al gepubliceerd voor ik bedenk dat het wel heel persoonlijk is. En dat het wel wat meer ‘licht’ kan gebruiken, want ik begrijp dat al die sombere gedachten jullie ook niet blij maken. Ik zal proberen alles voortaan wat meer licht te geven, wat meer te benadrukken wat ik ervan heb geleerd en hoe God er doorheen heeft gewerkt. Ook was het afgelopen woensdag dankdag, officieel dankdag voor gewas en arbeid. Ik heb ’s avonds ruim de tijd genomen om God te danken voor alles wat Hij mij geeft. Deze week ben ik weer actief geweest op internet, en daarvan wil ik wat dingen met jullie delen.

Hooray, it’s the weekend again! This week has been really busy over here. My mother, sister, brother and neighbor are working hard remodelling our basement. There are plastic crates everywhere willed with stock, mountains of dust on the shelves…. And then the tearing apart of the shelves, storing all the crates in the shed until they can have a new place, scrubbing the basement clean, make it waterproof and isolate the walls… It’s a huge job. I myself only helped a little with crating the stock, I still get tired very quickly. Apart from that I got some sweet reactions from friends about this piece about crushed dreams I placed wednesday. Sometimes I write a personal piece like this and I’ve already published it before I think about it maybe being to personal. And that it may use some more ‘light’, because I understand that all those sombre thoughts don’t make you happy either. I’ll try to give everything a little more light from now on, to emphasize a little more what I learned from it and how God worked trough it. It was also ‘Dankdag’ (thanksday), officially thanksday for crops and labor. I took my time that night to thank God for everything He gives me. This week I’ve been active on the internet again, and I want to share some things with you.

Ik hou van de poëzie van Tyler Knott Gregson. Zijn boek, Chasers of the Light, is via bijvoorbeeld The Book Depository (gratis verzending!) te koop. Ik weet dat Tyler over mensen schrijft, niet over God. Maar ik herken zoveel van God in zijn woorden. Ook in deze haiku. / I love the poetry by Tyler Knott Gregson. His book, Chasers of the Light, is amongst others available via The Book Depository (free shipping!). I know Tyler writes about people, not about God. But I recognize so much of God in his words. Also in this haiku.

Zoals ik hier boven al schreef, was het deze week woensdag dankdag. Dankdag wordt in Nederland alleen door christenen gevierd, het is geen officiële feestdag en ook niet elke kerk ‘doet er aan mee’. Van oudsher is het een feest in de kerk om God te danken voor alles wat hij geeft, in het bijzonder voor ‘gewas en arbeid’. Het is dus een soort oogstfeest. Op Amerikaanse blogs lees ik steeds meer over Thanksgiving, een feest dat eind deze maand plaatsvindt. Dat is wel een officiële feestdag, en bedoeld om je dankbaarheid naar God en voor elkaar te vieren. Vaak met een uitgebreide maaltijd met kalkoen en allerlei andere heerlijkheden. En het is niet alleen een feest voor christenen. Ik vind het wel eens jammer dat wij er niet zo’n groot feest van maken en met elkaar genieten van alles wat God geeft en ook naar elkaar uitspreken waar we dankbaar voor zijn. Maar goed, heel veel dingen uit Amerika waaien over naar Europa, en in het geval van dit feest zou ik dat helemaal niet erg vinden. Maar misschien zijn wij Hollanders wel te nuchter voor zulke enorme feestelijkheden.

As I wrote above, this Wednesday it was Thanksday. Thanksday is only celebrated by christians in the Netherlands, it’s not an official holiday and not every church takes part in it. Since a long time ago it has been a feast in the church to thank God for everything He gives, especially ‘crops and labor’. So it’s kind of a harvest feast. On American blogs I read more and more about Thanksgiving, a holiday that finds place at the end of this month. That is an official holiday, and meant to express your gratitude towards God and each other. Often it’s celebrated with a huge meal with turkey and all kinds of delicious foods. It’s not just a celebration for christians. I somethimes find it a shame that we don’t make such a feast of it and enjoy with everyone of what God gives and express to one another what we’re grateful for. But okay, a lot of things from America fly all the way across the ocean to Europe, and in the case of this celebration, I wouldn’t mind one bit. But maybe us Dutchies are a little too down to earth for such huge festivities.

Deze psalm past wat mij betreft perfect bij dankdag. God is overal en zorgt voor ons. De mooiste reden om dankbaar te zijn / This Psalm goes with Thanksday perfectly as far as I’m concerned. God is everywhere and takes care of us. The best reason to be Thankful.

Jennifer schreef een post naar mijn hart. Eigenlijk had ik nooit zo nagedacht over de relatie tussen mijn telefoon en mij. Voor mij is mijn telefoon vooral een middel om contact te houden met mijn vrienden via Facebook, SMS en Whatsapp, en met bekenden van blogs via Instagram, email en Twitter. Maar wat is het eerste wat ik doe als ik wakker word soms? Even op Twitter kijken wat het laatste nieuws is. Even zien op Facebook wat mijn vrienden de avond ervoor hebben gedaan. In plaats van dat ik God mijn eerste aandacht geef, gaat die aandacht naar de telefoon. Jennifer ervoer hetzelfde, en besloot ermee te stoppen. Geen telefoon voordat er tijd was besteed aan Jezus. Ik sluit me daar helemaal bij aan, en het eerste wat ik elke dag doe is God danken, Hem vragen om kracht en de #shereadstruth Bijbelstudie lezen.

Jennifer wrote a post after my own heart. Actually I hadn’t really thought about the relationship between my phone and me. For me, my phone is especially a way to keep in contact with my friends through Facebook, whatsapp and SMS, and with people I know from blogs trough Instagram, email and Twitter. But sometimes, what’s the first thing I do when I wake? I take a quick look at Twitter to see what’s the latest news. And I flip trough Facebook to see what my friends did the night before. Instead of giving God my first attention, that attention goes to my phone. Jennifer experienced the same thing, and decided to quit. No phone until there was time spent with Jesus. I wholeheartedly agree, and the first sting I do everyday is thank God, ask Him for strength and read the #shereadstruth devotional.

Ik vind deze column van een van mijn favoriete schrijvers, Francine Rivers, erg mooi. Ze beschrijft het proces van gaan van ‘zorgenmaker’ naar ‘vechter’. Heel mooi, net als haar andere posts!

I love this column by one of my favorite authors, Francine Rivers, very much. She describes the proces of going from ‘worrier’ to ‘warrior’. Very beautiful, just like her other posts.

Gretchen van Life Lived Beautifully schreef een heel informatief stuk over hoe zij haar Bijbel leest en er over schrijft. Ze gebruikt daarbij haar zelf ontworpen ‘In the morning when I rise, give me Jesus’ journal. Ik heb haar meteen gemaild over deze journals, want ze zijn nu even uitverkocht. Ze lijken me zo ontzettend handig om eens écht diep in je Bijbel te duiken. Er is ruimte voor gebed, voor het opzoeken van passages en woorden, voor het toepassen van de tekst, voor alles eigenlijk wat je op wilt schrijven, maar wel met ‘prompts’, dus ‘aanzetjes’ die je duidelijk maken waar en hoe je over iets na kunt denken. Ze mailde me meteen enthousiast terug dat er weer een nieuwe lading aankomt en dat ze me nog eens mailt als die is gearriveerd. Je kunt de journals hier kopen.

Gretchen of Life Lived Beautifully wrote a really informative piece about how she reads her Bible and writes about it. She uses the journal ‘In the morning when I rise, give me Jesus’ journal that she created herself. I immediately emailed her about these journals, because they’re out of stock right now. They seem so very handy to really dig deep into your Bible. There’s room for prayer, looking up passages and words, applying the text, for just about everything really you want to write down, but with prompts, so little headlines that show how aqnd where you can think about something. She immediately enthousiastically emailed me back saying a new batch is on it’s way and that she will email me again when it arrives. You can buy the journals here.

Katherine Henson schreef een soort ‘statement’ over haar leven, een compacte uiteenzetting van wat en wie ze wil zijn. En het beschrijft precies wat en wie ik wil zijn. Lees het even, het is de moeite waard!

“All I have to give is a broken girl with an unshakeable God illuminating through. That’s what I want to give you – every single day, with every single word, with every single pinky promise, with every single cup of coffee, with every single fierce fiber of my being. I want to give you God.”

Katherine Henson wrote a kind of ‘statement’about her life, a compact letter of what and who she wants to be. And it describes exactly what and who I want to be. Just read it, it’s worth your while!

Vorige week ben ik via Twitter en Facebook lid geworden van #fireworkpeople. Dit is een beweging die vrouwen in het algemeen, maar vooral vrouwen die bloggen, wil ondersteunen, helpen en bemoedigen. Ze willen ieders talenten en passies naar voren laten komen. Iedere dinsdagnacht (helaas lig ik dan al te slapen, maar alle Amerikaantjes zijn dan nog klaarwakker) hebben ze hele bemoedigende gesprekken over bloggen, het leven, hoe mensen te bemoedigen en hoe het verschil te kunnen maken in je omgeving. Het is altijd leuk om op woensdag via de hashtag #fireworkpeople op Twitter de gesprekken terug te lezen. Sinds deze week hebben ze ook een site met een blog, en zelfs als je zelf niet blogt, is het de moeite waard er een kijkje te nemen. Ik ben al zo bemoedigd door deze vrouwen, ze proberen me met man en macht ervan te overtuigen dat mijn blog ertoe doet, dat ik ertoe doe, dat ik mag zijn zoals ik ben en dat betere tijden zullen komen.

Last week I joined #fireworkpeople via Twitter and Facebook. This is a movement that wants to encourage, help and give support to women in general, but especially bloggers. They want to get out each member’s talents and passions. Every Tuesdaynight (unfortunately I’m asleep then, but all the Americans are wide awake) they have very encouraging talks about blogging, life, how to encourage peole and how to make a difference in the world around you. It’s always great fun to read the talks back on wednesday by searching the hashtag #fireworkpeople on Twitter. Since this week they also have a site with a blog, and even when you don’t blog yourself, it’s worth your while to take a peek. I have already been so encouraged by these women, they try with all their might to convince me that my blog matters, that I matter, that I can be who I am and that better times will come.

Welcome to the Weekend #6

En het is alweer weekend! Het lijkt wel dat, hoe ouder ik word, hoe sneller de dagen gaan. Deze week was ik nog steeds niet zo lekker. Mijn oma is inmiddels weer opgeknapt en naar huis vertrokken, maar nu had mijn schoonzusje het zwaar te pakken. Zij, en mijn kleine neefje, zijn een paar dagen bij ons geweest om eens goed verwend, verpleegd en achterna gerend (mijn neefje dan) te worden. Het was fijn om ze om me heen te hebben en ik ben weer helemaal op de hoogte van baby-tv. Ook ben ik wezen winkelen (!) met mijn zusje en mijn lieve nichtje en vriendin die tegenwoordig in Hamburg woont. Het was o-zo fijn haar weer te zien! Vanavond (ik schrijf dit op donderdag) gaan we met bijna alle andere vriendinnen nog even bijkletsen voor ze weer teruggaat naar Duitsland. Helaas is de opa van een van mijn lieve vriendinnen overleden, en ik denk veel aan haar. Ik weet hoeveel hij voor haar betekende. Het is altijd zo moeilijk om iemand te verliezen van wie je houdt… Verder heb ik weer heel wat tijd (hoewel wat minder dan normaal vanwege internet storingen) doorgebracht op internet en wat dingen gevonden om te delen. Heel wat minder dan normaal, want ook Bloglovin’ (waar ik alle blogs die ik mooi vind volg) werkte niet mee. Maar goed. Enjoy!

It’s the weekend again! It seems like the older I get, the faster the days go. This week I still wasn’t feeling too well. My grandma is feeling much better and went home again, but now my sister-in-law wasn’t feeling okay. So she and my little nephew have been here for a few days to be spoiled, nursed and chased after (my nephew, that is). It was nice to have them around me and I am totally in the know about baby-tv. I also went shopping (!) with my sister and my dear cousin and friend who lives in Hamburg, Germany these days. It was so so nice to see her again! Tonight (I’m writing this on thursday) we get to catch up with almost all of us girlfriends before she heads back to Germany. Unfortunately the grandpa of one of my sweet friends has passed away, and I think about her a lot. I know how much he meant to her. It’s always so hard to lose someone you love…. Apart from that I spent quite some time (although less than normal thanks to some internet-hickups) on the internet and found some things to share. A lot less than normal, because Bloglovin (where I follow my favorite blogs) wouldn’t cooperate. Anyway, enjoy!

Ann Voskamp schreef weer een prachtig stuk over een man die ze in Kenia heeft ontmoet. Hij vroeg haar om hulp, maar ze wist niet waar te beginnen. Dan schiet haar een gelijkenis te binnen. De betekenis ervan zie je hieronder. Heel mooi om te lezen, en het zet je in beweging om ook ‘zomaar’ te beginnen met het helpen van mensen, van de wereld, omdat je weet dat God met je is en Hij niet loslaat wat Zijn hand begint.

“Then one American Christian bends down and begins the work again of freeing those who are trapped. He works frantically with energy, passion and tears.

The others look at him for a moment and then one asks him, “Brother, where have you found this energy for the task? Are you sure you know what you are doing?”

“Don’t you see, loved ones? My heart is trapped beneath this rubble, too. We are all in danger if we do not respond to this need. We are all in grave danger – those who are below the rubble and those who stand above….

My witness before the throne of Jesus lies beneath this rubble.”

Ann Voskamp wrote another beautiful piece about a man she had met while visiting Kenya. He asked her for help, but she didn’t know where to begin. Then a parable comes to her mind. The meaning of it, you can read up here in pink. A very beautiful read, and it moves you to also ‘just’ start helping people, the world, knowing that God is with you and He won’t let go of what He started.

Hayley van A Tiny Twig schreef een stuk over de moderne vrouw en Bijbellezen. Zelfs ik, die 24 uur per dag vrij ben om te doen en te laten wat ik wil, laat Bijbellezen er wel eens bij inschieten. Laat staan wat er gebeurt als je een druk gezin hebt, een baan, werk in de kerk, een sociaal leven, een man of vrouw die ook nog aandacht wil en een beetje ontspanning ook nog wel eens mooi meegenomen is. Hayley schrijft dat er vaak zo op wordt gehamerd dat in je Bijbel lezen zó belangrijk is, dat het meer een moeten wordt dan een mogen. En dat Bijbellezen soms wordt geplaatst boven het allerbelangrijkste onderdeel van je geloof: Jezus. Ze heeft een hele lijst gemaakt die het makkelijk maakt om de Bijbel te lezen en er van te genieten – er met andere ogen naar te kijken. Zeker de moeite waard om eens een blik op te werpen!

Hayley of A Tiny Twig wrote an article about the modern woman and reading the Bible. Even me, having 24 hours in a day to do as I please, let reading in the Bible pass me by sometimes. Imagine what happens when you have a busy family, a job, work in church, a social life, a husband or wife that wants some attention too and a little bit of relaxation would do you good too! Hayley writes that, often, Bible reading is pounded into your system as so important, that it become more of a ‘have to’ than a ‘get to’. And that reading your Bible sometimes gets top priority in your faith life over the most important part of it: Jesus. She gives a whole list that makes it easy to read the Bible and enjoy it – look at it with different eyes. It’s certainly worth checking out!

Inmiddels is het alweer vrijdag en doet mijn internet het weer zoals het hoort, hoera! Dus heb ik vanochtend mijn tijd besteed aan het doorlezen (en soms even doorklikken) van 119 blogposts op Bloglovin’, en heb ik nog wat gevonden om met jullie te delen.

Right now it’s Friday and my internet is functioning as it should, hooray! So I spent my time this morning reading (and sometimes just clicking trough) 119 blogposts on Bloglovin’, and I found some things to share with you.

Gretchen van Life Lived Beautifully heeft vroeger op school geleerd te ‘journallen’ (dagboek-schrijven) bij het Bijbellezen en bidden. Ze heeft een mooie post geschreven waarom het zo belangrijk kan zijn om dingen op te schrijven, bijvoorbeeld om je dingen te herinneren en te begrijpen. Als je soms belangrijke beloften van God wilt onthouden of nog wat dingetjes uit de Bijbel uit wilt pluizen, is ‘journallen’ een heel goede manier. Echt een aanrader, dit artikel.

She wrote a beautiful post about why it can be so important to write things down, for example to remember things or to understand lessons. When sometimes you want to remember important promises God has made or want to look up some things you don’t understand, journaling comes in very handy. It’s really a good article to read!

Katherine Henson kan toveren met woorden. Ik lees met veel plezier haar gedichten, gedachten en overdenkingen. Deze week schreef ze er over dat angst nóg zo groot kan zijn, maar dat liefde alles overwint. Het is als een balsem voor mijn bange, kleine hartje.

Katherine Henson has a way with words. I love to read her poetry, thoughts and devotions. This week she wrote about the fact that fear can be gigantic, but love conquers all. It’s like a balm for my scared, little heart.

Dat was het weer voor deze week. Ik hoop jullie maandag weer te zien met een lijstje van dingen waar ik dankbaar voor ben. Een heel fijn weekend gewenst!

Hallo allemaal! Het is weer weekend! Voor mij zijn alle dagen zo’n beetje hetzelfde, maar velen van jullie zullen naar deze dagen hebben uitgekeken. Ik ben deze week een beetje ziek geweest, ik ben erg verkouden en heb daarom erge last van mijn hoofd. Maar gelukkig kreeg ik vandaag bezoek van twee lieverds en hun kindjes, dat maakte mijn week weer goed! Maar oke, dit zijn de dingen die me deze week zijn opgevallen op internet en die ik graag met jullie wil delen:

Hi everyone! It’s the weekend once again! For me, most days are kind of the same, but many of you will have been looking forward to these days. I have been a little sick this past week, I have a bad cold and a big headache because of it. But luckily today to sweethearts came to visit with their babies, and that made all well. But okay, these are the things that I noticed on the internet this week and want to share with you:

Dit prachtige lied, en de mooie illustraties die erbij horen, blijf ik maar delen / This beautiful song, and the lovely illustrations that go with it, I keep on sharing.

Ann Voskamp schreef een mooi artikel over ‘er niet bij passen’. Ik heb dat gevoel eigenlijk altijd gehad, dat ik er eigenlijk niet bijhoorde. Omdat ik zoveel in gedachten zat, en alles zo hard binnenkwam. Met de zangeres uit dit stukje kan ik me sinds een jaar of twee, drie ook wel vereenzelvigen. Ik ben te dik geworden door het gebruik van medicijnen. Maar God, God houdt van álles van mij. Zelfs van mijn dikke buik en mijn gepieker ’s nachts.

Ann Voskamp wrote a lovely article about ‘not fitting in’. I’ve really always had that feeling, not belonging. Because I was lost in my thoughts so much, and every thing that happened almost knocked me over. I can also understand the singer from this piece since two, three years. I became too big by using medication. But God, God loves áll of me. Even my big belly and my worrying at night.

Jennifer Dukes Lee schreef over de eerste vraag die God stelt in de Bijbel: Waar ben je? Als je je vergeten voelt, als je het gevoel hebt dat niemand je ziet, is Hij naar je op zoek. Vaak vatten we, als we het eerste boek uit de Bijbel lezen, die vraag als negatief op. Alsof God dreigt met die vraag. Maar, zoals Jennifer uitlegt, is de vraag eigenlijk heel liefdevol. Heel de Bijbel door is God op zoek naar mensen. Hij blijft maar vragen: waar ben je? Heel mooi om te lezen, en onderstaande foto geeft mijn favoriete zinnen weer:

Jennifer Dukes Lee wrote about the first question God asks in the Bible: where are you? When you feel forgotten, like nobody sees you, He is looking for you. Often we interpret that question, when we read the first book of the Bible, as a negative one. But, as Jennifer explains, the question really is very loving. Troughout the entire Bible God is searching for people. He keeps asking: where are you? A very beautiful read, and the picture above captures my favorite bit.

In ‘The Secret to Stop Feeling Like a Failure’ schrijft Jennifer over wat er veel belangrijker is dan de goedkeuring van de wereld om ons heen. In een brief van Paulus komt ze ene Apelles tegen. Hij wordt maar heel kort genoemd, maar wel om de beste redenen ooit. En die redenen zouden ook onze redenen van bestaan moeten zijn:

But Apelles? He’s not the star of the list. At most, he’s Honorable Mention. He merits only five words: “Tested and approved in Christ.”

But I drew in my breath when I read those words.

Because they may be the most important words of all. Those are the life-changing words: tested and approved in Christ.

What if we could live like that? What if we could live like Apelles? And what if, long after they bury our bodies, they remember this most — that we were tested and approved in Christ?

In ‘The Secret to Stop Feeling Like a Failure’ Jennifer writes about what’s way more important than the approval of the world around us. In a letter by Paul she encounters the name of Apelles. He is mentioned only shortly, but for the best reasons ever. And those reasons should also be our reasons of existence. See the pink coloured quote above:

In ‘A WORD IN SEASON: THE PAIN OF PRUNING WILL BECOME YOUR BEAUTY IN BLOOMING’ wordt het proces dat God ‘pruning’, dus snoeien, noemt, uitgelegd, en waarom het goed voor ons is. Het bereidt ons voor op Zijn plannen, het bevrijdt ons van de stekels die we door de jaren heen om ons hart hebben gevormd of van het onkruid waardoor anderen ons verstikken. Het kan een pijnlijk proces zijn, maar God kan er iets mee. We kunnen er zelf iets mee. We groeien erdoor en zullen erdoor tot bloei komen.

In ‘A WORD IN SEASON: THE PAIN OF PRUNING WILL BECOME YOUR BEAUTY IN BLOOMING’ the proces of pruning is explained and why it’s good for us. It prepares us for His plans, liberates us from the thorns that have grown around our heart, and the weeds of others that makes us suffocate. It can be a painful process, but God can do something with it. We can do something with it. We grow trough it and will blossom trough it.

Hoera, het is weer weekend! Ik hoop dat jullie een mooie week hebben gehad, gevuld met herfstige stormen maar ook met zon. Ook deze week heb ik weer het hele wereld wijde web afgespeurd naar goede artikelen, citaten, teksten en pins. Die deel ik vandaag met jullie:-)

Hooray, it’s the weekend again! I hope you’ve had a lovely weekend, filled with autumn storms but sunshine too. This week too I searched the world wide web for good articles, quotes, texts and pins. Today, I share them with you all:-)

Het eerste artikel dat me heeft geraakt deze week is van Ann Voskamp van A Holy Experience. Ze ziet de bomen verkleuren en denkt aan het beroemde psalmvers: ‘Laat alles wat adem heeft God eren.’ Als ze thuiskomt is bij haar jongste dochtertje de eerste tand eruit. En haar dochtertje ziet dat als een zegen. Dat doet haar denken aan Job, die natuurlijk een veel, veel groter verlies leed, maar toch zei: ‘De Here heeft gegeven, de Here heeft genomen, geprezen zij de naam van de Here.’ Hierdoor brengt ze de twee gedachten bij elkaar: Laat alles wat adem heeft God eren, zelfs bij verlies. Zelfs als alles moeilijk is. Een heel mooi stuk om te lezen, en een van de reden waarom ik de categorie ‘Monday Thankfulness’ heb ingesteld op mijn blog. Laat alles wat adem heeft God eren! The first article that really hit me this week is by Ann Voskamp of a Holy Experience. She sees the leaves turning yellow and thinks of the famous verse from the Psalms: ‘Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.’ When she gets home, her youngest daughter lost her first tooth. And her daughter percieves that as a blessing. That reminds her of Job, who of course lost so, so much more but still said: The Lord has given, the Lord has taken, blessed be the name of the Lord.’By this, she brings the two thoughts together: Let everything that has breath praise the Lord, even in loss. Even when everything is hard. A very beautiful piece to read, and one of the reasons why I feature ‘Monday Thankfulness’ on my blog. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! De Bijbel staat vol met mooie namen van God- dit vind ik toch wel een van de mooiste!

Laura Bogges schreef een boek over hoe haar huwelijk bijna stukliep op depressie en angst en schrijft daar op aholyexperience.com een klein stukje over. Heel mooi!

Als je al een tijdje meeleest, weet je dat mijn leven niet op rolletjes loopt. Ik heb niet, zoals zoveel leeftijdsgenoten, een partner, een huis, een auto, een baan, een kind. Ik heb zelfs vrijwel geen sociaal leven (wel vrienden, maar geen durf om met ze af te spreken) en heb heel veel moeite met uit huis komen. Dan is het heel verleidelijk om de ‘je bent niet goed genoeg’ leugen te geloven. En daar schrijft Jennifer Camp, Pre-approved writer of the week op Jennifer Dukes Lee’s site over. When you’ve been reading along with me for a while, you know my life doesn’t exactly go as planned. I don’t have, like so many of my peers do, a home, a job, a partner, a car, a child. I hardly have a social life ( I have friends, but too much anxiety to meet up with them) and a lot of trouble getting out of the house. Than it’s very appealing to believe the ‘I’m not enough’ lie. And that’s what pre-approved writer of the week on Jennifer Dukes Lee’s site, Jennifer Camp, wrote about. Read the article here.

Zoals zoveel mensen heb ik de neiging om dingen te willen doen voor God, zodat Hij van me houdt. Dit was een goede herinnering dat het daar totaal niet om draait. Het gaat om genade, en om Hem volgen, Hem gehoorzamen. Een goede reminder om je dag mee te beginnen.

As so many people do, I have the tendancy to want to do things for God so that He would love me. This was a good reminder that that’s not at all what faith is about. It’s about grace, following Him and being faithful to Him. A good reminder to start your day with.

Een van de allermooiste liederen is, naar mijn bescheiden mening, ‘Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing’. Hier uitgevoerd door Chris Rice. De tekst van dit oude lied is prachtig, en ik hou ook van de rustige, pure melodie. Afgelopen week heb ik de bovenstaande ketting besteld met een zin uit het lied: ‘Tune my heart to sing Thy grace.’ Iets om altijd te onthouden en bij me te dragen.

One of the most beautiful songs is, in my humble opinion, ‘Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing’. Here it is performed by Chris Rice. I love the lyrics of this old song and also the peaceful, pure melody. Last week I ordered the necklace above with a sentence from the song on it: ‘Tune my heart to sing Thy grace.’ Something to always remember and keep with me.

Lauren van Elle & Co heeft niet alleen gebedsformulieren gemaakt die je gebedsleven wat makkelijker kunnen maken, maar ze deelt ook hoe ze voor zichzelf bidt. Het kan moeilijk zijn voor jezelf te bidden, omdat het egoistisch aanvoelt en er al zoveel mis is in de wereld om je heen waar je voor kunt bidden. Maar Lauren legt uit hoe belangrijk het toch is en op welke manier ze dan bidt.

Lauren of Elle & Co has not only made prayer sheets that make your prayer life a little easier, she also shares what she prays over yourself. It can be difficult to pray for yourself, because it seems selfish and there is so much wrong in this world that you can pray for. But she explaines how important it is and what’s her ‘go to’ prayer.

Mooi om te bedenken. Mooi om te weten. Mooi om ook, in je diepste twijfelmomenten, niet te vergeten.

Beautiful to think of. Beautiful to know. Beautiful to, also in your deepest moments of doubt, remember.

Joy wrote a beautiful article about hospitality. How important it is to share our lives, and our food, with others. To sometimes just swing open your door and invite somebody in. Because community is something we all need. And how great is it to be able to take the initiative yourself and give space to people who happen to need it and share your gifts with them? Katy van scottyboyandkatygirl had een interessante week. Ze was op een bijeenkomst met tweehonderd vrouwen en nadat ze had gezien dat iedereen moe, geprikkeld, afgeleefd en misschien ook wel een beetje veroordelend was, had ze er al helemaal geen zin meer in. Maar één lied, één gebed naar God en alle muren vielen naar beneden. En het zette haar aan het denken: kunnen we niet, in plaats van elkaar te veroordelen, van elkaar houden en elkaar helpen? Katy of scottyboyandkatygirl had an interesting week. She was at a gathering with 200 other women and after she saw that everyone, including herself, was tired, aggrevated, tired of life and maybe a little judgemental, she didn’t feel like it at all anymore. But óne song, óne prayer to God and all walls came tumbling down. And it made her think: can’t we, instead of judging each other, love each other and help each other? Ann Voskamp van A Holy Experience schreef erover hoe je de hoop kan verliezen als je moet wachten en het donker is. Een vriendin belt haar in tranen op, omdat zij geen hoop meer ziet. Met een aantal bloembollen in haar hand gaat Ann naar haar toe, om te laten zien dat de bollen wel in een diep, donker gat gestopt worden, maar in het voorjaar in al hun pracht en praal tevoorschijn zullen komen. Een artikel dat je aan het denken zet en hoop geeft.

Ann Voskamp of A Holy Experience wrote about how you can lose hope in the waiting, in the darkness. A friend calls her up in tears, because she can see no more hope. With some flower bulbs Ann goes to see her, to show that the bulbs have to be put in a deep, dark hole, but in the springtime will appear once again in all their splendour. An article that makes you think and gives you hope.

Ik volg de blog van Bailey Jean (Brave Love) nu al een aardig tijdje. Ook op haar Instagram account deelt zij veel mooie foto’s en commentaren. Deze gaf me hoop, en wie kan dat nou niet gebruiken?

I’ve been following the blog of Bailey Jean (Brave Love) for quite some time now. On her Instagram account she also shares lot’s of pretty pictures and comments. This one gave me hope, and who can’t use that?

De nieuwe blog ‘Glow, live as Light‘, brengt allerlei posts die je hoop geven en de moed te vinden om te leven als een licht. In de post ‘Twirly Girl’, geschreven door Kelsey Lasher, viel vooral dit gedeelte me op:

You can be the girl, the woman that God created you to be without the validation of others. You can be her without the makeup, the cute clothes, the achievements, the titles. He loved you without it all. He was proud of you without the trappings and decorations of this world. He loved you when it was just you. So, who told you you were naked? Look them in the eye and hope that your tutu knocks them over while you twirl.

Het gaat over Eva, die zich plotseling realiseerde dat ze naakt was, terwijl ze precies was wie ze hoorde te zijn. Maar het gaat ook over ons vrouwen, die gaan van rondjes dansen in onze prinsessenjurk en ons mooi voelen naar ons telkens weer verkleden en make up dragen en ons voelen alsof we nooit genoeg zijn. Een mooi artikel!

The new blog ‘Glow, Live as Light‘ delivers all kinds of messages that give you hope and the courage to live as a light. In the post ‘Twirly Girl’, by Kelsey Lasher, this part stood out:

It’s about Eve, who suddenly realised she was naked, while she was exactly who she was meant to be. But it’s also about us as women, who go from twirling around in our princess dresses and feeling beautiful to dressing up and using make up and never feeling that we measure up. Such a great read!

Om je weekend maar eens positief te beginnen, een mooie, uit het hart geschreven comment op een foto op Instagram. Het heeft me beslist aan het denken gezet.

De laatste tijd kom ik veel blogs tegen waarin wordt gezegd dat het goed is te doen wat je kunt, waar je bent, en hoe je bent. Dat je niet perse naar een derdewereldland hoeft om God te dienen, maar dat je Hem ook kunt volgen, dienen en je rol die Hij je geeft kunt vervullen op ogenschijnlijk kleine manieren. Shauna Niequist (schrijfster) schreef een bemoedigende blogpost over de kleine dingen waar je toch trots op mag zijn, omdat je ze in Jezus’ naam doet.

Lately I’ve been coming across lots of blogs in which is said that it’s good to do what you can, where you are and how you are. That you don’t necessarily need to go to a third-world country to serve God, but that you can also follow Him, serve Him and fill in the role He has given you in seemingly small ways. Shauna Niequist (writer) wrote an encouraging blogpost about the small things you can be proud of, because you do them in Jesus’ name.

En uiteindelijk nog een artikel van Ann Voskamp, die momenteel samen met haar dochters in Rwanda is en daar de vreselijke verhalen hoort over de genocide, over de armoede, over de honger. Maar ook over de hoop, het delen, de liefde van God. Dit artikel is geschreven voor de Amerikaanse kerk, maar ik denk dat wij als westerlingen het allemaal ter harte mogen en móeten nemen. Wat zijn wij voor Christenen als we onze broers en zussen zomaar van de honger om laten komen omdat we zelf in luxe willen leven? Leven we dan Jezus na? Ik ben absoluut niet perfect en let vaak totaal niet op mijn uitgaven. Maar dit artikel roept me op om te geven. Niet om er zelf beter van te worden, maar om Gods wereldwijde kerk, Gods geliefde kinderen, er beter van te laten worden. Lees de blogpost op aholyexperience.com

But also about hope, sharing and the love of God. This article is written for the American church, but I think we westeners can and háve to take it all to heart too. What kind of Christians are we when we let our brothers and sisters just die because we want to live in luxury? Do we live like Jesus then? I’m absolutely not perfect and often have a total lack of control over my spending. But this article calls for me to give. Deze week is voor mijn doen druk geweest. Ik ben gezegend met geweldig lieve reacties op deze post, met wat extra geld wat ik echt heel goed kan gebruiken en wat opties voor de toekomst om over na te denken. Ik heb wat lieve kaarten van liefhebbende vriendinnen gehad, wat me altijd al wat vrolijker maakt, en een bezoekje van mijn oma en J en M die me ook aan het lachen hebben gebracht. Natuurlijk was de rest van de tijd gevuld met slapen (heel veel!), het knuffelen van mijn kleine neefje en het doorstruinen van het internet. Dus ik heb weer heel wat ontdekkingen gedaan, hier zijn ze:

This week has been a busy one for me. I’ve been blessed with amazing comments on this post, with some extra money I could really, really use, and some options to think about for the future. I’ve had some lovely cards from loving friends, which always makes me a little happier, and a visit from my grandma and J and M that put some smiles on my face. I’ve also joined a new reading plan by SheReadsTruth, the Open Your Bible one. So far it’s been amazing, it has shown me so many ways to read and access the Bible. If you want to join in or catch up, you still can! Or you wait for the next study, which starts at september 30th. If you’ve got an iPhone, you can download the app and read along there, or you can wait for the Android one which comes out this month! Or do as I do, follow along via the site. Ik heb geen plannen voor het weekend, en jij? Ik ga gewoon uitrusten en wat kaarten schrijven aan de lieve vriendinnen die mij ook hebben geschreven. Mijn plan is om dit onderdeel elke week terug te laten komen, om te delen wat ik heb ontdekt op het wereld wijde web. Nog dingen in het bijzonder waarover je zou willen lezen?
